An urban maquette can be almost like a living object, changing alongside the city it represents. Over the years, these models need to be cleaned, updated and sometimes expanded with new buildings. As Amsterdam continues to grow, new urban plans and developments are constantly reshaping the city. For NDSM, we were asked to update an existing maquette of the area. Since the original model was built, the urban plan had been revised several times. Ahead of an upcoming participatory evening with the neighbourhood, the Gemeente asked us to update and adapt several blocks, making the plan’s evolution clear to both visitors and those working on the development. This update gave the model a new chapter, allowing it to continue documenting the changing identity of the area.
